What is Huellas?
Huellas is a blank canvas. Why? Because we’re new. We still have a lot to figure out. But that’s the exciting part. We do, however, have a pretty good idea of where we want to start. While longform non-fiction narrative has become a popular genre of writing in English, it has long existed in Spanish as la crónica, a particular type of storytelling where style blends with substance. This tradition belongs to Latin America, though we believe it resonates with Latinx writers as well. Above all, Huellas is an inclusive platform for emerging writers of the Americas. It is necessarily a transnational project as well, with contributors from around the continent whose work will be made accessible for a wide audience through translation, as well as print and digital distribution. In our attempt to bridge the cultural, linguistic, and geographic divide, we hope to build and serve a community of writers who also represent a community of readers eager to consume their own stories in a format that allows for nuance, exposition, and style.
